Much like the money toad’s strained attempt to maintain composure, God of Equilibrium depicts a duck whose missing head is concealed beneath a cluster of flowers, sustaining equilibrium through instinct alone.
In The Parable of the Blind, Pieter Bruegel the Elder references the biblical proverb: “If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.” Our contemporary condition is even more destabilizing than that of the Reformation era, yet paradoxically lacks clear direction or purpose.
Here, the duck stands precariously upon four quail eggs that may shatter at any moment. Supporting this fragile balance is a reflective, electronic water surface—illusory yet radiant—suggesting a digital economy that promises alchemical transformation. Whether such promises will ever be fulfilled remains uncertain.
